I’ve now caught up with the processing from my recent trip to Fife – finishing off with images from my walk from Upper Largo (or Kirkton of Largo) down to Leven in the East Neuk of Fife.

I got off the bus in Upper Largo to have a look at the fine old church, which looked lovely in the winter sunshine – though access to the churchyard was out due to a landslip and collapsed retaining wall!

From the church I wandered up the lane to Largo Cemetery where there’s a fine view of Largo Law, a 290m conical hill, which looked like a lovely walk on a less windy day!

It was just a short walk down to Lower Largo with its tiny harbour on the Firth of Forth, where the Crusoe Hotel overlooks the beach, which looked quite dramatic in the blustery conditions.

I followed the coast for a bit and then back up to the main road at Lundin Links and across to the Ladies Golf Course to have a look at the three amazing prehistoric standing stones on the fairway – I have to thank The Wee White Dug for the tip for this location, which I would probably never have found – unless I’d been reading the small print on my OS map very carefully.  Thanks Casper!

From the stones I had a quick look at nearby Lundin Tower before heading further along the coast towards Leven, where a short heavy shower forced me to pack the camera away – and then rapidly get it out again to capture the lovely rainbow that appeared over Largo Bay, with Largo Law looming on the coastline.

There were lovely patterns in the sand on the beach, and three oil rigs sat out in the Firth of Forth added some interest on the horizon as the rainclouds rolled above.

Despite the blowy conditions (it was pretty wild on the beach) there were a few hardy dog walkers braving the elements beneath the wind turbines further along the coast.  From here it was just a short hop across to Leven bus station for the trip back to St Andrews.
