Last Week’s Shoot – Leeds City Square

I popped into Leeds one afternoon last week to get some more dusk shots that might suit my 2022 calendars (the 2021 designs are all done!) intending to have another look at Millennium Square and the Civic Hall, which I had done last January but the views of the Civic Hall had been marred by the two tower cranes behind it.  Unfortunately, they were still there and in exactly the same positions!  And with scaffolding on the nearby Town Hall I opted to walk back down to City Square near the station instead…

Just after dusk the lights draped on The Queen’s Hotel came on, which looked very pretty, though I had to wait for the sky to darken a little more for the lighting to take effect in the rest of the square.

The Old Post Office building looked good, but it’s only lit by the general lighting in the square and it was a shame that the lamps in the lovely Morn and Even lampholder statues seemed to be out of action – thought somehow they look a bit like they’re lit in the image above (they weren’t – it’s just the surrounding lights catching them).

The Number One City Square block added a modern contrast to the old Post Office building.

As the light faded, I finished off with a few traffic trail shots with the lights on the Queen’s Hotel as a backdrop before heading back to the station.
