With just a two day week after the Christmas break last week, I thought I’d ease into the New Year gently with a short stroll round to Knaresborough Castle for a dusk shoot on Friday afternoon. This turned out to be a great choice with a lovely pink sky over the castle and viaduct…

It had been a nice sunny afternoon, so I’d popped out before sunset – just in time for the sun to drop into the wispy clouds just above the horizon, so the light was a bit flat for a time – but about ten minutes after the sun had dropped below the horizon the pink colour arrived.

The twilight added a nice glow to the King’s Tower at the castle just as the floodlighting was coming on.

The war memorial also caught the pink glow, but looked quite different silhouetted against the twilight sky looking towards where the sun had set…

As the sky darkened and the pink glow started to fade, the lights on the castle keep changed from white to red and green…

All in all a very easy and pleasant first shoot of 2020! You can see more of the shots in the North Yorkshire Gallery on the website.
