Last Week’s Shoot – Amble Harbour

Amble Harbour Entrance and Coquet Estuary at Dusk

I had a few days in Northumberland last week, and the week before, taking in Amble by the Sea, Alnwick and the lovely Simonside Hills near Rothbury, and I think there may need to be some upcoming “Last Month’s Shoot” posts as I’m only just  getting round to processing the images!  However, I’ve done a few from Amble Harbour on a day with less than favourable clouds during the day, which gave way to some nice evening light…

The heavy clouds seemed to invite a few shots with a view to black and white conversion, so I made a few images with that in mind on my first trip to the harbour, and came back later in the evening hoping for some nicer light.

The clouds had broken up a little, though there was still quite heavy cloud out over the sea, but as the sun went down some nice pink light broke through, producing a more colourful image of the harbour entrance.

The cloud shapes were also quite interesting across the estuary, and looked great in the fading light of the setting sun.

As the evening wore on, the sky above cleared out even more revealing some light wispy white clouds against an evening blue sky.

The “cloudscapes” proved to be my favourite images from the shoot, especially those captured with a longer lens to pick out some of the finer details.
