The weather forecast for the middle of last week was for still days with flat grey skies which sounded very much to me like waterfall weather. So I decided to pay Goitstock Falls a visit for the first time.

The waterfall is situated in Goitstock Wood near Cullingworth in West Yorkshire. I walked from Cullingworth down to the woods, meeting Harden Beck near and old converted mill building. From here it’s a lovely walk through woodland following the beck downstream.

There’s a smaller waterfall just upstream of the main falls which was quite interesting, especially for getting in close for a few abstract moving water detail images.

Below this fall the view upstream along the beck towards it was rather good, though I think it may be one to return to when the beck is surrounded by a bit more colour in spring or autumn.

Down at Goitstock Waterfall itself there was plenty to keep me busy. The nice flat stone slabs to the left of the falls looked great – and also provided a nice platform to set up a tripod on for some closer shots of the falls!

And, inevitably, I came away with a collection of abstract close-up images as well!

The woodland along the way was full of mossy rocks which provided another interesting subject, but water was the main focus of my visit and I was pleased to find this little cascade downstream of Goitstock Falls, which provided one of my favourite images from the shoot.
Getting There
Just head down Hallas Lane from Cullingworth. Map: https://goo.gl/maps/usmdb
I travelled by train to Bingley and got a connecting bus to Cullingworth. I expect you can get there by car too, though I’ve always found driving in the Bingley/Keighley/Haworth area rather congested and frustrating so I wouldn’t recommend it!
