Woodland Trust – Yorkshire Autumn Colour

Here’s an account of a commission from last October for the Woodland Trust to capture images of autumn colour in a number of Woodland Trust owned woods in Yorkshire. (This was previously shown on my website, but I’m moving commission accounts to the blog!)

The woodlands selected were Nidd Gorge Woods between Knaresborough and Harrogate including Spring Wood and Scotton Banks at the Knaresborough end and Bilton Beck Wood at the Harrogate end along with Hackfall Woods near Grewelthorpe and Skipton Woods near the castle in Skipton.

Shooting three different woodlands in good light and with good autumn colours could have proved tricky as those perfect still autumn days with a touch of mist in the treetops can be few and far between, but a break in the wind and rain for a few days gave some great opportunities for just the right kind of light.

A particularly misty day at Hackfall produced some nice mysterious images and the still conditions worked nicely for reflections in the River Nidd in Nidd Gorge and in the dams and channels around Eller Beck in Skipton Woods.
