Last Week’s Shoot – St Andrews

I’m just back from a trip to St Andrews, which has become a regular winter visit over the past few years with delightful sunrise and sunset locations available just a short walk from the cosy flat on The Scores and so much more to explore along the Fife coast.

I’ve barely scratched the surface with the processing so far, but here are a few shots from the first evening I was there.  I went out for sunset but it was pretty cloudy and there was no nice pink light as there often is over the West Sands.  It was quite windy too, and dry sand from the dunes had been blowing across the beach forming patterns with the ripples in the wet sand left by the receding tide, so these made quite a nice detail subject in the cold light.

As dusk fell I turned my attention to the Royal and Ancient Golf Club building behind me, which was floodlit and looked splendid against the blue of the twilight sky.  The moon even started to make an appearance through the clouds above the building.  Beyond the R&A on The Scores the Martyrs Monument was near silhouetted against the sky and made a striking image with the rising moon just behind it.

Despite the less than ideal light I was quite happy with the results of the first evening’s shoot as I made my way back to the comfortable flat on The Scores – I’m indebted to my friend Siggy for the use of it and the next day I set about a slightly different shoot – photographing the new kitchen in the apartment for his website!

The flat is highly recommended as holiday accommodation for a visit to explore the town of St Andrews and the Fife coast – you can find out more on the 3c Gillespie Terrace website.

I travelled to St Andrews by East Coast trains to Leuchars station where there is a regular bus service into town.
