About the location
Gunnerside is a small village in Swaledale in the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Situated on the main road between Reeth and Muker, the old stone barns and dry stone walls are a well known landmark in the valley bottom approaching the village. The name Gunnerside derives from the old Norse name Gunnar and the word for pasture or meadow. In the Gunnerside Barns Swaledale card, the barns are seen on a summer evening during hay cutting in the meadows.
