About the location
The old market well building, known locally as The Fountain, was given for public use in 1875 by Mrs Lawson of nearby Aldborough Manor. The brick superstructure supported by columns is surmounted by a wooden cupola and weathervane. Apparently the well is 256 feet deep! The Fountain is located in St James Square in Boroughbridge and is a listed building. In the Boroughbridge Fountain postcard is can be seen from across the road at the side of St James’ Square.
