About the location
The amazing ruins of the Augustinian priory of St Mary sit in a beautiful location by the River Wharfe in Wharfedale. Dating back to the 12th century, the remains are now a grade I listed building. Most of the priory buildings were ruined during the dissolution of the monasteries. However, the western and of the nave was preserved as a local parish church which is still in use today. In the Bolton Abbey Wharfedale card the ruins can be seen surrounded by autumn colour from a high vantage point across the river.
